R Bindings for the Geospatial Data Abstraction Library
rgdal is an R package which provides bindings to the Geospatial Data Abstraction Library (GDAL) and access to projection/transformation operations from the PROJ.4 library. Both libraries are external to the package. By accessing those libraries both GDAL raster and OGR vector map data can be imported into and exported from R.
