A query for geometric features based on their spatial relationship.

A spatial query serves to identify geometric features, like points, lines or polygons, based on a particular spatial relationship with another geometric feature, like distance or containment. "Find all the objects that lie within a given distance $dist$ from the spatial feature $S$" is an example for a spatial query. Spatial queries can be issued through scripts and via command line, for example Python or postGIS, or through the interface of applications like Qgis or ArcGIS.
