I stayed on QGIS dev; the issue was as is described in that final link (the bug report): support was broken for multipolygons with spaces. I simply adjusted WKT = p.dumps() to WKT = p.dumps().replace('), (','),(') and had no further issues. I thought I was going crazy, thanks.
