Mar 14, 2017 at 13:56 | comment | added | danielaandrea | Thanks! It definitely had to do with the file that is mentioned in your link, but I just removed it completely and reinstalled QGIS (see my answer below). Thank you!

Mar 14, 2017 at 11:03 | comment | added | HeikkiVesanto♦ | Can you try: github.com/OSGeo/homebrew-osgeo4mac/issues/…
Mar 14, 2017 at 9:57 | comment | added | danielaandrea | I found the "Processing" folder in this location: "/Applications/QGIS.app/Contents/Resources/python/plugins" and copied it to "/.qgis2/python/plugins" but that doesn't change anything either...
Mar 13, 2017 at 10:43 | comment | added | danielaandrea | There is only one folder in the plugins folder called "MetaSearch" and yes QGIS reports broken directly after the reinstall with this error message: "Python error: Couldn't load plugin processing due to an error when calling its classFactory() method See message log (Python Error) for more details." Other python plugins are running okay!
Mar 13, 2017 at 10:32 | comment | added | AndreJ | Are other python plugins running ok? Otherwise python support may be broken.
Mar 13, 2017 at 10:19 | comment | added | HeikkiVesanto♦ | Is there anything in your \.qgis2\python\plugins folder? QGIS reported processing as broken directly after the reinstall of QGIS?
Mar 13, 2017 at 10:12 | comment | added | danielaandrea | Yes I'm using Kyngchaos

Mar 13, 2017 at 10:06 | comment | added | HeikkiVesanto♦ | .qgis2 folder should be enough. Are you using the Kyngchaos installer? kyngchaos.com/software/qgis
Mar 13, 2017 at 10:03 | comment | added | danielaandrea | I did uninstall and reinstall it. Do I have to delete anything else besides the application and the .qgis2 folder?
Mar 13, 2017 at 10:02 | comment | added | HeikkiVesanto♦ | A full re-install might be easiest.
