I am having trouble with the ArcGIS 10.1 and ERDAS Imagine 9.2 license conflict. From what I found out it isn't that rare, but interestingly enough why is there such a conflict in the first place?

Therefore I am looking for some alternatives, heard about PCI's Geomatica but never tried it, any open source solutions?
