I'm a senior lecturer in GIS & Spatial Data Management at IHE Delft Institute for Water Education. I hold an MSc and PhD degree in Physical Geography from Utrecht University. During my previous work at the Flemish Institute for Technological Research (VITO) in Belgium I participated in projects related to water quality modelling, land-use change modelling and the use of remote sensing for urban applications. Since 2012 I work at IHE Delft, the largest international graduate education institute in the field of water. In my teaching and capacity-development projects I actively promote the use of open source tools and open data by young professionals from the water sector in the Global South. For this purpose I have developed free and commercial educational products. I co-authored the book QGIS for Hydrological Applications and am a board member of the Dutch QGIS Users Association.
